Correction and supplementary information on news report

Due to some inaccuracies in reports regarding the recall notice of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. on April 7, we hereby make some corrections and provide supplementary information.

The cause of the recall is described as an unsuitable propellant used in the inflator. However the causal propellant is not the gas generant itself, but instead an enhancer which is used to burn the gas generant.

Daicel manufactures the inflator concerned, but the enhancer in question was purchased from a specific manufacturer, with wide variation in burning rate, and it has become clear that if the burning rate is very slow, and the gas generant does not burn, the airbag might not function normally.

Currently, the enhancer is not purchased from the supplier concerned, and there have been no problems with enhancers apart from this one, with confirmation of inflators functioning normally. This extent of the malfunction as reported in the article has been determined to be limited in scope.
