Invention Encouragement Prize, FY2018 Kinki Local Commendation for Invention

Daicel Corporation (Head office: Kita-ku, Osaka, President & CEO: Misao Fudaba) received the Invention Encouragement Prize of the FY2018 Kinki Local Commendation for Invention held by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation, for its invention named “PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ACETIC ACID”.

The Local Commendation for Invention which started in 1921, is for researchers, engineers, etc. who have made outstanding inventions. Daicel was highly evaluated for its contribution to society by the practical application of the invention concerned.

The award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at Daiwa Roynet Hotel Wakayama.

Summary of Awarded Invention

[Name]
“PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ACETIC ACID” (Japanese Patent Number: 5662269)

[Inventors]
Hiroyuki Miura, Masahiko Shimizu, Takashi Ueno, Kazuo Yamaguchi, Kensuke Goto

[Outline]
This invention relates to a process for producing acetic acid as a result of the reaction of methanol with carbon monoxide, which efficiently removes the reaction heat by condensing a portion of the vaporized material in the evaporator and recycling it to the reactor. This process allows the apparatus such as the distillation column to be miniaturized, inhibits loss of the carbon monoxide and will also enable the production of acetic acid in a resource and energy efficient manner.
