Cellulose Long Fiber-Reinforced Plastic Patent Registered on “WIPO GREEN”

The Cellulose Long Fiber-Reinforced Plastic patent held by Daicel Polymer Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Koichi Maruyama, hereinafter: “Daicel Polymer”), a group company of Daicel Corporation (Head office: Kita-ku, Osaka, President & CEO: Yoshimi Ogawa, hereinafter: “Daicel") was registered on “WIPO GREEN”, a platform to promote transfers of environmental technologies managed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), an organization of the United Nations, on January 23, 2020.

WIPO GREEN, established by WIPO in 2013, is a database and network to connect environmental patent holders and those who seek green technologies with the aim of promoting the transfer of environmental technologies. Under the WIPO GREEN scheme, patent holders register their environmental patents and those who seek green technologies enlist their needs to find a match and provide an opportunity to negotiate. More than 1,400 individuals and organizations in over 110 countries have participated and over 3,600 patents and needs have been registered, resulting in more than 600 successful matches. Once registered on WIPO GREEN, patents are expected to receive international recognition and find more effective applications.

Daicel Polymer’s patent “Fiber-reinforced resin composition (Japanese patent number: 5938299)” was registered on WIPO GREEN. This patent covers plastics utilizing a natural sustainable material, recycled cellulose fiber, as reinforcement. Other than the Japanese Patent, Daicel Polymer has obtained patents in US, Europe, China, and Korea. The patent covers plastics made from recycled fibers of the natural sustainable material "cellulose".

Due to both lightness and mechanical strength characteristics, this plastic is able to meet the need for weight reduction in the automobile and various other industries. Daicel Polymer is widely promoting the product as an environmentally friendly plastic material utilizing a naturally-derived raw material, and will take the registration on WIPO GREEN as an opportunity for greater sales expansion.

Daicel Group will continue to develop environmental products and technologies and contribute to achieving a more sustainable society, as stated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
