Daicel Corporation (Head Office: Kita-ku, Osaka, President & CEO: Yoshimi Ogawa) is pleased to announce the completion of the structure of the “Foresting Architecture”. This project, which Daicel have sponsored and cooperated with, has been constructed by Takenaka Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, Japan, President: Masato Sasaki) using a 3D printer since August of this year at the “Ground Plaza” on the site of the 2025 Japan International Exposition.

Foresting Architecture” is a temporary structure that will be provided for visitors to use for rest and relaxation.. This building is constructed using Daicel’s cellulose acetate resin “CAFBLO®”, a naturally derived biodegradable material, through 3D printing. The exterior will be made of handmade Japanese paper and other plant materials.

This is the world's largest structure made from 3D printed biodegradable resin.

On October 25, 2024, “Foresting Architecture” was recognized by Guinness World RecordsTM as the “Largest 3D-Printed biodegradable building (monolithic)”.

In addition to Japanese paper made by traditional craftsmen, “Seed Paper,” a Japanese paper made of plant seeds, and Japanese paper made at welfare facilities will be combined and affixed to the structure for the exterior and greening work, which is scheduled for completion in April 2025.

※1:About cellulose acetate resin “CAFBLO®”

Cellulose acetate is a modified natural polymer that is produced using "cellulose (plant fiber)" derived from non-edible plants and "acetic acid" existing naturally as raw materials.

It is a highly biodegradable material that is friendly to the environment and the human body.

We are committed to the effective use of natural resources by using trees, cotton, and other plants as raw materials, systematically cultivated under controlled conditions.
