Daicel Corporation
Daicel Corporation (Head Office: Kita-ku, Osaka; President & CEO: Yasuhiro Sakaki) hereby announces that, with respect to Toyo Styrene Co., Ltd., in which Daicel holds a 15% equity interest, Daicel has entered into a share transfer agreement with its co-investor, Denka Company Limited (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Ikuo Ishida), dated March 9, 2026, and will transfer its equity interest in the company.
Toyo Styrene Co., Ltd. was established in 1998 as a joint venture between Daicel Corporation, Denka Company Limited, and Nippon Steel Chemical & Material Co., Ltd. The company was formed to consolidate the polystyrene businesses of the three firms and secure competitiveness for the survival of the business at a time when domestic demand was rapidly declining due to the accelerating shift of polystyrene users overseas in the late 1990s.
As Daicel continues to promote the transformation of its business structure in line with its mid-term strategy, "Accelerate 2025," the Company has determined that the transfer of its equity interest is the most appropriate option for all stakeholders in order to support the further growth and development of the polystyrene business.
Following this share transfer, polystyrene production at the Hirohata Plant is scheduled to continue for a certain period.
