Contribution to Local Communities and Society

Basic Approach

The Daicel Group respects the customs and cultures of the local communities connected to the Group through its business activities, and it maintains and enhances its good relationships with those local communities by providing relevant information, carrying out appropriate dialogues, and contributing to local community developments. These efforts are in keeping with the Ethical Standards of Daicel Group "(3) Sustainability, environmental conservation, and social responsibility," "(v) Contribution to local communities: Engaging with local communities is essential to being responsible corporate citizens." Daicel builds relationships with various local communities to understand their needs and priorities, to collaborate with community members and organizations, to help align our contributions with the communities’ specific needs, and to foster meaningful partnerships that drive positive change. Based on this code, we communicate with the local communities where we are located, as well as engage in a wide range of activities such as fostering the next generation and volunteering, in order to symbiotically contribute to the development of the community.

Supporting Future Generations

Joint Support for Educational Facilities by Eleven Daicel Group Companies in China

Daicel Group in China provides continuous support based on the fundamental principle of "the company making lives better by co-creating value," and we consider education as an important foundation for supporting the future.

This initiative is based on the SDG 4, "Quality Education," and involves collaboration among eleven companies in our Group in China to provide educational support in Shengli Village, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. By delivering school supplies to local children, we are supporting the improvement of their learning environment.

Over the five-year period from 2021 to 2025, we supported educational facilities, supporting a total of 1,259 children and 115 students with financial constraints. Through this continuous support, we aim to contribute to the development of future generations in the region.

In FY2026/3, we donated books, school supplies, uniforms, and other items to 219 children enrolled in six educational facilities and also provided scholarships to 40 university students.

Moving forward, Daicel Group in China will continue to provide continuous support, working alongside local communities based on our "People-centered Management" policy.

Investing in Future Competencies – Daicel as a Partner in Education and Industry Development

On December 12, 2025, during the Knowledge Triangle Conference in Walbrzych, representatives of education, academia, and industry gathered to discuss the future of technical education and the competencies that will be critical for the development of a modern economy.

The event brought together participants from, among others, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Lower Silesian Superintendent of Education, and Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone Invest-Park. One of the event partners was Daicel Safety Systems Europe, actively supporting cooperation between business and education.

From an industrial perspective, the future belongs to competencies that go beyond purely technical knowledge. Increasing importance is placed on the ability to operate in digital environments, data analysis, understanding complex technological processes, project-based work, and readiness for continuous learning and adaptation to change. Equally critical are soft skills such as teamwork in interdisciplinary environments, communication, and decision-making in a dynamic business context.

Daicel Safety Systems Europe has been consistently investing in the development of these competencies, treating cooperation with education as a strategic pillar of future industrial growth. As part of its CSR activities, the company actively engages in initiatives that bridge theory and practice — supporting internship and apprenticeship programs, participating in student projects, and involving industry experts in the education of young engineers.

A key element of this engagement is also the long-term commitment to the development of an educational cluster, creating a real platform for cooperation between schools, universities, and business. DSSE believes that investing in future competencies means investing in people, innovation, and the competitiveness of the entire region.

Long-term partnerships between business and education enable the effective preparation of the next generation for real labor market challenges and support the development of a modern, responsible industry.

Support for Independent Research Activities of Junior and High School Students

Daicel commits to provide research-supportive assistance that encourages the interest of junior and senior high school students.
In FY2026/3, we expanded our activities to include supporting junior and senior high school students who are challenging themselves to present their research overseas, directly supporting the research activities of local Super Science High Schools (SSH).

Support for High School Students’ Research Presentations to Encourage Challenges Abroad (High School Student Overseas Challenge Support Program)

Daicel started an initiative to support high school students who hope to expand their field overseas from FY2026/3.
We encourage students to present their outstanding research abroad, participate in international conferences, and gain experience on the global stage to expand their opportunities to deepen their research in international research fields.

In March 2026, we invited high school students who had presented their research overseas or participated in international competitions to Tokyo Head Office for a research results presentation. As well as the students, their supervisors, officers, researchers, and employees in Daicel participated, engaging in lively discussions about the research process and their experiences abroad.

Students commented, "This exprience gave us an opportunity to review how we report our research processes and results.", "We were able to understand our overseas peers' opinions through interactions with them." For our employees, the challenges of the next generation provided valuable learning opportunities.

Daicel will encourage high school students to share, discuss, and reflect on their experiences to expand them into future learning.

Connecting Inquiry to Society Through Communication with Super Science High Schools (SSH) (Supporting Research Activities at SSH Schools)

Daicel began a support program for inquiry-based learning at Hyogo Prefectural Tatsuno High School and, from FY2026/3, expanded the program to Super Science High Schools (SSH) located in areas near our business sites. We have been visiting the fields of inquiry-based learning activities and engaging in repeated interactions with students and teachers.

SSH (Super Science High School) is an educational program designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology that focuses on science and mathematics and involves project-based research and inquiry-based learning activities. Students set research themes, formulate hypotheses, and work on project-based research while repeatedly testing them.

Daicel participated in the "Science Fair in Hyogo," which brought together approximately 1,200 high school students from SSH schools in Hyogo Prefecture, as well as research-related events held by various SSH schools. At these events, we presented our products, demonstrated the creation of biodegradable plastics using 3D printers, and introduced our businesses.

Furthermore, through dialogues at research theme proposal meetings and results presentation meetings held at each SSH school, we are continuously working to build supportive relationships with high school students involved in research activities.

These exchanges provided high school students with an opportunity to re-examine their research in relation to society while also giving companies a chance to reconsider the significance of their research and business activities.

To leverage the lessons learned from these initiatives, in FY2027/3, we will further deepen our collaboration with universities, SSH schools, and local communities to develop a system that continuously supports inquiry-based learning of junior and senior high school students.

Held “DAICEL BLIND FOOTBALL® WEEK" in Umekita (Osaka)

From May 18 to 25, 2025, Daicel held the "Daicel Blind Soccer Week in Umekita" at Grand Front Osaka Umekita Plaza.

Blind Soccer*1 is a five-a-side football game played with players wearing blindfolds and using a ball that makes a sound when it rolls. The four players except a goalkeeper are visually impaired, and they play game relying solely on each other's voices and sounds.

As the title sponsor, Daicel supported this tournament, with four countries participating in the men's category (Japan, Argentina, Thailand, and Colombia) and the women's category (Japan, England, Argentina, and Australia). The matches were played out at Umekita Plaza. During the tournament, not only fans of blind football but also many people visiting the station and shopping mall stopped to watch, and the total number of spectators exceeded 170,000.

Our employee, Hiroto Takahashi, also participated in this tournament as a member of the Japanese national team. In addition, a total of 330 people from Daicel Group participated as volunteers, supporting the tournament's operation in various ways, including venue setup, competition management, visitor guidance, and booth operation.

Furthermore, on May 24, we held "Daicel Family Day" for employees of Daicel Group and their families. We conducted programs such as a soccer clinic, a blind football experience session, a talk show, and match viewing, providing participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of blind football. The participating children also served as escort kids in the women's final match.

As a partner of the Japan Blind Football Association and a sponsor of the men's and women's national teams, Daicel supports the popularization and development of blind football. Following the "Daicel Blind Football Japan Cup 2024 in Osaka" held in 2024, this time we supported international official tournaments in both the men's and women's categories, providing an opportunity to share the appeal of blind football with even more people.

Communication with Local Residents at the Fuji Plant in Japan

Fuji Plant of Polyplastics Co., Ltd. (currently Fuji Plant of Daicel Coropration) has been regularly inviting local residents for 50 years, since 1974, to exchange opinions on environmental, health, and safety matters.

In June 2025, the plant held an opinion exchange meeting attended by 10 local residents. It explained the Fuji Plant’s environmental initiatives and engaged in lively discussions, and conducted a tour of the plant that focused on environmental facilities. Participants shared positive feedback, such as, “Hearing about the initiatives eased my concerns.” Polyplastics will continue to communicate with local residents to deepen mutual understanding and build a relationship of trust.

Voluntary Activities

School Bag Donations in Singapore

In FY2026/3, Daicel (Asia) Pte. Ltd. and Polyplastics Asia Pacific Singapore Pte. Ltd. (currently Daicel HPP Singapore Pte. Ltd.) jointly produced school bags and delivered them to children in need through schools. Participating employees created the bags, imagining the smiles of the children. Through this activity, we were able to talk about our commitment to social contributions.

Mangrove Planting in Jakarta

In FY2026/3, Poyplastics Asia Pacific Singapore Pte. Ltd.'s Jakarta Rep-Office (Jakarta Office) conducted mangrove tree planting activities in collaboration with the local community as part of its eco-friendly initiatives.

Participants carefully planted trees, soaking themselves in the water as they imagined how the area would become a mangrove forest in a few years.

These are small initiatives, but we believe that continuous efforts will create a large circle, leading to improvements in the global environment and enabling us to pass on a better environment to future generations of children.
